Welcome to this week’s ESG in 5, where we spotlight five standout developments in environmental, social, and governance progress from around the globe. From cutting-edge energy storage and solar-powered data centres to EV charging expansion and ethical fashion pledges, this week highlights how major corporates and industries are moving the needle on sustainability and responsible innovation.

Google to deploy advanced clean energy storage tech.

Google and energy storage startup Energy Dome have announced the launch of a new long-term partnership, alongside a strategic investment by Google, aimed at deploying Energy Dome’s advanced long-term energy storage (LDES) solution globally, and addressing a key challenge enabling the use of 24/7 clean energy.

Energy storage forms one of the key building blocks for the rapidly expanding clean energy transition, given the intermittent generating nature of many sources of renewable energy, such as wind and solar, and the need to satisfy round-the-clock energy demand, while ensuring that energy is not wasted, particularly as demand on the grid grows from areas such as transport electrification and AI computing.

Meta Buys 100% of Renewable Energy from New $900 Million Solar Project to Power U.S. Data Centres

Meta has signed a long-term deal with Enbridge to source all the renewable energy from a new 600 MW solar facility in Texas to power its data centres.

The new project, Clear Fork, will be a utility scale solar facility located near San Antonio. Enbridge announced that it has reached a final investment decision on the project, with an estimated project cost of approximately $900 million.

The facility is currently under construction and is anticipated to enter into service during the summer of 2027.

bp pulse Opens Largest US EV Charging Hub Near LAX.

bp pulse, bp’s global EV charging business, has opened its largest US charging hub, located just two miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The site features 48 ultrafast DC fast charging bays, equipped with a mix of 400kW and 150kW chargers and both CCS and NACS connectors.

The LAX hub was partially funded by a $2 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) and is designed to serve a mix of users, including ride-hail drivers, rental car customers, and local EV owners.

India’s Top Designers Go Feather-Free in Ethical Fashion Pledge.

In a landmark move for sustainable fashion, over 50 leading Indian designers have pledged to go feather-free, aligning with PETA India and Stella McCartney’s call for cruelty-free couture. Launched on Fashion Day, 9th July, the initiative aims to end the use of feathers sourced from birds often plucked alive.

Designers like Anita Dongre, Gaurav Gupta, and Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla are embracing innovative, eco-friendly materials to replace feathers. The pledge reflects growing consumer demand for ethical fashion and signals a shift toward compassionate luxury. As PETA India states, “Cruelty isn’t cool—kindness, is the ultimate style statement.”
